I never quite know where one of my mixed media pieces will begin or where it will end.
Sometimes it starts with a photograph, sometimes with a drawing, and sometimes with nothing more than a random line that begins to suggest something unexpected. I bring these elements together in the digital space, adding colour, texture, light, and layers of digital painting as the work slowly takes on a life of its own.
Music is nearly always playing while I work. It helps me stop thinking about what I am supposed to be creating and simply follow the movement, mood, and instinct of the moment. That is often when the most interesting things happen.
The move into digital mixed media was not something I had originally planned. As many of you know, my work has evolved alongside my chronic illness. I can no longer spend hours physically painting or wander the streets with my camera as often as I would like, but the need to express myself is still very much there. If anything, it has grown stronger.
Digital art gave me a way to keep creating, but it also gave me far more than I expected. What began as a way of working within my physical limitations gradually opened an entirely new creative world.
Life has a habit of throwing curveballs. This collection grew from one of mine, and I could not be prouder of the direction it has taken.
Here is a selection of some of my latest mixed media and digital artworks.
