Emergence – Oil Painting by Bellanda

Emergence – Artwork by Bellanda ®

As with all the paintings in my Life Series, I had no idea where this one would take me. I put on Ludovico Einaudi and allowed myself to disappear into the music, letting the brush follow where it wanted to go.

There is something very freeing in that for me. My body may have its limitations, but when I paint this way I can lose myself completely. There is no plan and no possibility of going back. Each line, once painted, has to remain, and the next must find its way from what is already there, rather like life itself.

As the layers of Emergence began to build, I found myself travelling through those deep greens towards the light. I hadn’t set out to put it there, yet somehow the light appeared.

Light has found its way into so much of my work. Perhaps because, even through the more difficult times, I have always needed to believe there is something to move towards.

And so Emergence became, for me, a painting about hope. Not about erasing what has gone before, but allowing something new to grow from it.

  1. Wow. I love it. As usual, your use of light is really interesting. There is something very uplifting and positive about this work. Sadly, I’m not articulate enought to put it into words.

    1. Thank you, Paul! Your words are just perfect and I am thankful you took the time to share them. I’m glad that you find the painting uplifting. I like to play with the light in my painting so that people will find exactly that of which you have written: uplifting and positive. For life can bring us some not so easy situations, but I often try find the light in all. I’m pleased you saw this.
